Matthew 5:6

Jesus made it clear that apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). This means that unless His Spirit is at work in us, we are not only unwilling, but unable to be the way He wants us to be and do what He wants us to do.

Just like we were utterly helpless to save ourselves and needed the Holy Spirit to work out salvation in us, so we need Him desperately to work out Christ’s righteousness in us.

On our own, we don’t have a desire for the things of God, because our flesh is weak and wants to satisfy itself. It is only by the grace of God, through the work of the Spirit, that we would even have the desire to be like Christ, and praise the LORD that He is willing and able to fill us when we hunger for Jesus and crave His righteousness to be reflected in our lives!
