No sinner can save themselves, no matter how good they think they are, how many good things they do and how many rules/rituals they follow. There are no “good people” in the world, just sinners, bad people, who’ve convinced themselves they’re good!
There is only One Way a person can be saved, that is, by placing their trust and faith in Jesus. This is NOT something anyone can do on their own by critically examining the Bible, studying the Christian faith and engaging in rigorous discussions. Saving faith can only be brought about by the work of the Holy Spirit in that person!
Each person is DEAD in their sins. Only through the Holy Spirit can dead sinners be brought to life in Jesus Christ, being able to confess with their mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God has raised Jesus from the dead.
